The New
Freedom Community Gardeners have a mission to not only enhance the
natural beauty of New Freedom, but considering the loss of natural
habitat in the area, to provide native plants which will benefit the
life cycle of many creatures including native birds, butterflies,
beneficial insects and small animals.
GOALS:
To
beautify New Freedom by:
Planting
trees
Planting
and maintaining flower beds
Enhancing
and naturalizing public areas.
To use
native plants and trees whenever possible.
To use
environmentally safe products.
To
educate the public about the benefits of preserving open space,
protecting our natural environment and to show by example how these
things can be done in our own back yard.
PROJECTS:
Plant and
maintain trees, bushes and flowers along the Rail Trail in New Freedom.
Plant
community pots in the Spring for the businesses and community
organizations in New Freedom with assistance of Girl Scouts.
Decorate the pots in the Fall for Christmas.
Assist
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in projects to attain Gold badges and Eagle
Scout rank.
Participate
in the annual New Freedom 4th of July Parade.
Submit
entries to the Shrewsbury Flower Show in August.
